A Planting of Faith Seeds for the Glory of the LORD
We can do it!
Quite a while ago I remember seeing a cartoon in a magazine where Tarzan was returning home at the end of a horrendous day and saying to Jane, “Jane, it is a jungle out there!” While was meant to be humorous you and I know that outside the sanctuary of our homes it’s more than just a jungle out there it can be and is terrifyingly dangerous “out there”. Unfortunately there are people with homes where that may not be true, or some may not even have a home.
You’re probably already familiar with “Sticks and stones can hurt my bones but names and words will never hurt me,” you also know that as an untruth because names and words are powerful and they may not hurt bones but they can and do destroy from the inside out. Throughout my life I taken refuge in many sanctuaries such as church, hospital, home, storm shelters, school, I’ve also taken sanctuary in the power of words, and especially words of sanctuary found in the bible, such as these found in Peter’s second letter:
“Jesus has the power of God, by which he has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus called us by his glory and goodness. Through these he gave us the very great and precious promises. With these gifts you can share in God’s nature, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires.” (2 Peter 1:3–4, NCV)
Every day we come under fire not from a hail of bullets but from a hail of words designed to tempt us and draw us away from our first love, God. Sometimes the words try to make us unhappy with ourselves. There are times when the words attempt to strike fear into us. Other times the words are an attempt to control us. While it is true we live in a world full of powerful and hurtful words there are words of sanctuary much more powerful such as the ones above.
Because we “know Jesus” (are intimate with Jesus) through the ministry of the Holy Spirit given us we have everything we need to fend off any “attack words” thrown at us! With the words given us through the Holy Spirit we share in God’s nature, because of our relationship with the WORD the world will be powerless to intimidate us.
With our relationship with the WORD and his words we will be victorious against any hail of words thrown at us. WE CAN DO IT!
Believe it! Experience it!
Grace and PEACE!
