Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
From living in tents to living in eternal homes…
I have Pulmonary Fibrosis. In my case mine is not as aggressive as others are yet over the past 4 years it has worsened slightly and therefore is something to be concerned about. The other day while in my doctor’s office our frank and to the point conversation centered around the prognosis and the doctor looked at us and said something like this, “It all boils down to this it is just a matter of what will take you first.” There is a new medication just approved for use in the United States he is prescribing for me in the hopes that whatever does take me home to God won’t be Pulmonary Fibrosis.
My point in all this isn’t to draw attention to myself and the difficult road my family and I face but to draw attention to God (from whom all blessings flow) and his ultimate plan not only for my life but yours as well. I think Paul does a superb job of not only explaining it but also leaving us basking in the brightest Light of Hope God has made available to us.
“Our bodies are like tents that we live in here on earth. But when these tents are destroyed, we know that God will give each of us a place to live. These homes will not be buildings that someone has made, but they are in heaven and will last forever… These tents we now live in are like a heavy burden, and we groan. But we don’t do this just because we want to leave these bodies that will die. It is because we want to change them for bodies that will never die. God is the one who makes all of this possible. He has given us his Spirit to make us certain that he will do it. So always be cheerful!” (2 Corinthians 5:1, 4–6, CEV)
At the first reading one may get the idea that we can do whatever we want with our bodies because when it can no longer support life God has a new one for us. The bible tells us each one of us has an appointment with death but it also suggests (very strongly) we not hurry the appointment along either. Besides Paul also amply points out, “All of you surely know that you are God’s temple and that his Spirit lives in you. Together you are God’s holy temple, and God will destroy anyone who destroys his temple.” (1 Corinthians 3:16–17, CEV)
Jesus is not only our greatest Hope and Light for this life but also for the wonderful life yet to come.
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 LEB)
