Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

Does God have selective hearing?

The other day Patti and I were discussing whether or not God is listening to our prayers because when prayers go unanswered the first thing that enters our minds God isn’t listening. The truth is an unanswered prayer does not mean it’s an unheard prayer but it does out of our humanness raise a question.

Does God have selective hearing?

The answer is yes, God does have selective hearing. “The Lord never even hears the prayers of the wicked, but he answers the prayers of all who obey him.” (Proverbs 15:29, CEV)

Because no one is perfect and we all fall short of the glory of God neither Patti or I like everyone else do not obey God perfectly the Amplified Bible adds the “flavor” of God’s grace in response to lives lived in repentance to Proverbs 15:29, “The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the [consistently] righteous (the upright, in right standing with Him).” (Proverbs 15:29, AMP)

The Psalmist gives us hope, “When his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles. The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. The Lord’s people may suffer a lot, but he will always bring them safely through. Not one of their bones will ever be broken.” (Psalm 34:17–20, CEV)

Our biggest problem when it comes to unanswered prayer isn’t necessarily God’s not listening but God is working out his own plan not only for our lives but also the lives of those we are praying for. One thing we need to understand God’s plan is not the same as our plan, but God’s plan is always the right one. One way we obey God is giving him the freedom to work his plan into our lives and the lives of those we pray for. Many years ago there was a television show titled “Father Knows Best” while the show is no longer on television the principle still applies to our relationship with God!

Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!
