Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Have faith in God…
I had a good friend at work whose favorite saying was, “Buy a good calculator it’s the only thing you can count on.” While I’ve had many calculators and not one of them has ever given me a wrong answer but batteries have failed, light powered devices don’t work in the dark, keys have become inoperative, and display screens have gone dark. And the truth is calculators fail but the good news is God does not, cannot, and will not fail! My response was always, “Calculators break down God never does,” yet even though he was very knowledgeable about the things of God he didn’t know God. No matter what I said he would not change his mind. To this day I still wonder how he could know so much and not know God, I wonder how many people are like him.
I have written before about how growing up (and even into my mid 20’s) of acquiring a fear of the dark. Even now nearly 60 years later when I close my eyes I can still see a scene from movie as a man walked at night this thing floating in the air covered his head and killed him. There is no doubt in my mind that fear is one of the most powerful “things” we can experience and truth while the source of my fear of the dark still lingers in my memory yet because it lies buried beneath tons and tons of faith it no longer has the power it once did.
Fear comes in many shapes and sizes for example there is fear of failure, fear of the future, fear of being alone, fear of dying, fear of living, and the list goes on and on (we can even experience more than one at the time). I am not sure which one you’re familiar with but I do know this – the Psalmist was writing from experience when he wrote. “From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help. Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him… I have put my hope in his word. I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” (Psalm 130:1-2, 5-6, NLT) And if you believe in those words like I do they’ll put another ton of faith on your fears.
Four of the most important words Jesus said were, “HAVE FAITH IN GOD!” “For God has not given us a spirit of FEAR and TIMIDITY, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7, NLT, emphasis mine)
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
