Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
What are you willing to deny?
“Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it benefit a person if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?” (Luke 9:23–25, NET)
I suspect none of us have ever bowed our heads looked God straight in the eyes and said, “LORD, it’s either my way or the highway!” However, haven’t we is subtle ways dropped some very powerful hints? You already know one of my “foundational scriptures” is Jeremiah 29:13, “For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NET) You also know (from your own experiences) there are times when God’s plans for my life are not on the same wavelength.
In case you’re not familiar with God’s plans for your life here’s a partial list. Matthew 5:3-10, NLT, God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. (4) God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (5) God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. (6) God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. (7) God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. (8) God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. (9) God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. (10) God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
Confession time! God and I have not always been on the same wavelength when it comes to the humility part I am okay with “inheriting the whole earth” part but I have a problem with the experiences that drive to my knees, “God it is my will that this cup be taken away.” But I am learning the hard way my will is no match for God’s so I am getting better at tuning in to his wavelength. Someday God and I will be on the same wavelength in every aspect of my life. I am willing to deny my opposition to humbling experiences God puts in my path in order to deepen and strengthen our relationship.
Now it’s your turn to tune to God’s wavelength and confess!
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
