Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Jesus is our Light and Life…
Ultimately everything in life depends on God! And ultimately in only God can you trust!
“A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha… So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days. Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea… The disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will soon get better!” They thought Jesus meant Lazarus was simply sleeping, but Jesus meant Lazarus had died. So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.” (John 11:1, 5–7, 12–15, NLT)
Steven Smith uses Lazarus’ story as a way for us to assess our faith journey and its ability to further deepen it in the Heart of Jesus. “The story is an invitation to live, but this invitation will prove to be like none you’ve ever received before. As we accept this invitation, we’ll see Lazarus getting weaker and more desperate for healing, asking us to evaluate our own spiritual condition. When all the efforts of friends and relatives fail to persuade Jesus to show up and fix the situation…” (Smith, Stephen W. The Lazarus Life: Spiritual Transformation for Ordinary People. David C. Cook. Kindle Edition.)
Lazarus, Jesus friend died. Jesus knew it, the disciples thought he wasn’t. Jesus waited two more days to illustrate these divine truths we can build and live our lives on: God has power over life and death, God answers prayer, in God we can trust, everything happens within God’s timeframe, and last but never least faith exercised will not go with its rewards.
For Lazarus did the light go out even though he was wrapped and buried? NO, thousands no, tens of thousands of NO’s! Because JESUS IS THE LIGHT darkness is never an end. Lazarus’ story like yours and mine are stories of life and Light not of death darkness.
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
