Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

Who’s your Builder? Teacher?

40 years ago (or so) I read a statement that went something like this, “Christians don’t problems they pray them away.” Because I had problem after problem, after problem I thought I was one of the poorest Christian’s alive. So because I thought I was a sorry example of a Christian I was determined to get on the topside of the “lifeline” and began spending time with God and Jesus (reading and studying the bible) and attending church. It didn’t take me long to realize, “Christians pray because they have problem, after problem, after problem.”

You’ve heard this before not only from me, from others but also from a small voice from deep inside – The most important thing you’ll do all day is spend quality time with God the Master Builder… “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” (Psalm 127:1–2, NLT)

And Jesus the Master Teacher… “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” (Matthew 7:24–27, NLT)

Dr. M. Scott Peck writing in his book The Road Less Traveled wrote, “Life is difficult, but when you understand life is difficult it is no longer difficult,” (I’m not sure that’s word for word). I always had trouble understanding it until one day I realized life is always going to have its difficulties but when we expect them we can have a plan in place to “defuse” them. It was then I tossed out “plan b” and began developing my own “Plan J” (the J stands for Jesus) based on scriptures such as the examples above.”

God may be the Master Builder but what we do with his “building” is up to us. Jesus may be the Master Teacher but what we do with what he teaches us is up to us.

Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!

Gary

Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Me and believes in Me will never ever die. Do you believe this, _______________________________________________________?" (John 11:25-26 NLT)
