God is the Ultimate Problem Solver!
“As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in his thoughts. You are my helper and my savior. O my God, do not delay.” (Psalm 40:17, NLT)
Words from my BFF sliced their way to the center of my heart yesterday as he asked, “Why is this happening to us?” I was at a loss for the right words. Can anything be worse than a writer at a loss for words? Yes there is, it’s a man or woman searching for a reason for the problems that seem to wreck their lives. Have you ever been there? Are you there now? While I am at a loss for the right words all I can do is to offer suggestions based on my experience at living.
My friend was in the hospital because he’d been the victim of a car accident. He was in the hospital because he needed to be there. Jesus once said those who are healthy do not need a doctor. That’s like saying those without problems do not need a problem solver. My friend was in the hospital because he had a number of problems, the good news is he’ll be going home soon because of the problem solvers who solved his problems. However, his question was not just about his problems, his question started with the “door opening mystery word” WHY. And again coming full circle I find myself at a loss for adequate words.
However, using myself as an example allow me the freedom to use inadequate words. I am poor and needy I am sure my friend will say, “Me too.” Believe it or not I am humbled at that fact (I believe my friend would agree) because, “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.” (Matthew 5:3, NLT) A few years ago I made reference at church one Sunday as Christians because of our sinfulness and brokenness we are “ragtag” followers of Jesus a well-dressed lady told me I offended her because she did not think of herself as ragtag. With that experience running though my memory I dare ask, would you be offended if I told you that you to are poor and needy?
Because my BFF and I are poor and needy with all our hearts we can say, “I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” (Psalm 130:5–6, NLT)
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
