Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Me and Jesus got our own thing going!
“Long ago in many ways and at many times God’s prophets spoke his message to our ancestors. But now at last, God sent his Son to bring his message to us…” (Hebrews 1:1–2, CEV)
I’ve read this scripture many times but this morning when I read it again two things came to light. Before Jesus was born God had to communicate with people like us through prophets. Following Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection God didn’t necessarily need to use prophets to communicate with us. Singer Song Writer Tom T. Hall answers how God opens up a line of communication for us, “Me and Jesus got our own thing going”, he may not have used good English but Jesus didn’t create the English Language he created us and made it possible for us to have one-on-one relationship with God!
Me and Jesus have been doing our own thing since before I was born. Of course I don’t have any memory of what we were doing before I was born because I was pretty young back in those days! My earliest memories of our activities begin about 4 or 5 years after I was born in Sunday school classes at church (of all places) where together we were laying and building not only a faith foundation but a relationship with God as well. And now 64 years after those earliest memories we’re still doing our own thing of course Jesus works a whole lot harder than I do. After all these years I finally figured out how Jesus got so strong. He’s picked me up so many times over the years it’s no wonder he can support and pick up entire universes!
How about taking a few minutes and reflect back on what you and Jesus have been doing together? Isn’t it wonderful you two are working together making a better world! Since God is so wonderful for giving us Jesus let’s give it up for Him. “Shout praises to the Lord! Praise God in his temple. Praise him in heaven, his mighty fortress. Praise our God! His deeds are wonderful, too marvelous to describe. Praise God with trumpets and all kinds of harps. Praise him with tambourines and dancing, with stringed instruments and woodwinds. Praise God with cymbals, with clashing cymbals. Let every living creature praise the Lord. Shout praises to the Lord!” (Psalm 150:1–6, CEV)
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
