Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

“For when I am weak, then I am strong…”

“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9–10, HCSB)

Isn’t it amazing how some experiences hang with us for years and years and others are gone after a few minutes? After reading the scripture reading above my memory took me back 30 years or so. I was teaching a bible class and someone brought up the subject of weaknesses. I remember one lady in particular made the comment that she was aware of her weaknesses but refused to admit them because if she did she’d be weak. I think I she was saying as long as she buried her weaknesses she would be strong. Which on the surface sounds plausible, however what it basically meant was she was standing/depending on her own strength. I’ve tried that a few times myself – BUT IT DON’T WORK! You know it, I know it, and the apostle Paul knows it, “…Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh was given to me…” (2 Corinthians 12:7, HCSB)

Admitting our weaknesses does not excuse us from doing all we can to strengthen ourselves it simply means when we get to the end of our rope we let go and depend on God who provides us with the additional strength we need. As you think about these things please center them around the LORD fulfilling Paul’s prayer in your life NOW. “May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.” (Colossians 1:11–13, HCSB)

BE strong in the LORD!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!
