Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Peace is where God is…
Can one person praying make a difference?
Sunday in our church school class the conversation at one point turned to the poor spiritual condition our world is in. Conversations about our troubled world always bothers me because invariably it usually takes on a negative undertone. I had read a scripture earlier before going to church that suddenly resurfaced giving me a fresh perspective on my (our) need to pray for our lives, the lives of our loved ones, our churches, our places of employment, our communities, our states, our country, other world countries, and the people far and near. “And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.” (Jeremiah 29:7, NKJV)
Because there seems to be a lack of peace at first it sounded confusing to me after all how can we seek something that isn’t there? If then, I am unable to find peace in my life and the “world” does that mean there is no peace for me? And if that is the case can one man praying make a difference? The answer of course is YES! One person praying can make a difference, because the power to make a difference isn’t in the one doing the praying, the power to make a difference is in the one answering the prayer!
The title of this Glory Seed “Peace is where God is” for me removes the confusion because as the Psalmist so aptly puts it God is everywhere. “Where could I go to escape from your Spirit or from your sight? If I were to climb up to the highest heavens, you would be there. If I were to dig down to the world of the dead you would also be there. Suppose I had wings like the dawning day and flew across the ocean. Even then your powerful arm would guide and protect me. Or suppose I said, “I’ll hide in the dark until night comes to cover me over.” But you see in the dark because daylight and dark are all the same to you.” (Psalm 139:7–12, CEV) Therefore since God is everywhere peace exists everywhere.
When we continually seek God through our prayers and other means of deepening our relationship with God he answers us first of all with the presence of Holy Spirit and where the Holy Spirit it present there is peace. And when you pray the first life you make a difference in is your own!
Through our lives God is present in the life of others and the world in which we live.
BE strong in the LORD!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
