Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

God is not finished with you yet…

YOU are a work in progress – God’s work in progress. Through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus God is at work in YOUR life. Don’t take my word for it take Isaiah’s word. “To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”” (Isaiah 28:9–10, ESV)

It is because Jesus has drawn us into a relationship with him that we have not only been “weaned from the milk” but also have begun receiving and “spending” our inheritance from God. The apostle Paul gives us insight. “In him (Jesus) we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined (promised) according to the purpose of him (God) who works all things according to the counsel of his (God’s) will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his (God’s) glory (power).” (Ephesians 1:11–12, ESV, words in parenthesis mine)

Please take note of the “precept upon precept, precept upon precept” expression, you might consider understanding it as “difficulty upon difficulty, adversity upon adversity”. The “he” in the first sentence is the Holy Spirit. “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13, ESV)

Among the many truths the Holy Spirit is teaching us through difficulty upon difficulty, adversity upon adversity, instance upon instance, experience upon experience, here a little, there a little is that God is “methodically working” us toward Himself. Here are a couple of questions for you perhaps not to answer but to seriously think about. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31–32, ESV)

YOU are a promise fulfilled – God’s promise, fulfilled by Jesus!

BE strong in the LORD!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!
