Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
Holding on at 50 miles per hour…
Over and over again God proves to me he is a God of surprises. One morning a couple of years ago while driving to get a copy of our daily newspaper for my wife I noticed a fly sitting on my windshield. I glanced at my speedometer and I was going 50 miles per hour then looking back to the road I saw the fly was still there unaffected by wind created by going 50 mph. And suddenly God was talking to me.
One thing I noticed about the friendly little hitchhiker he just sat there. He didn’t move at all even his wings didn’t move. It was almost as if I wasn’t moving at all. I suspect a fly-ologist would be able to tell me why the fly was able to hang on unaffected by my moving car. But for me it was a lesson on faith! A lesson in holding on no matter how hard and fast the wind is blowing or life is moving. At this point in my life it was a much needed lesson I needed to remember because there still times when I don’t think I can hold on.
I think what is amazing about the experience is the fact that I have a pretty good familiarity with many of the scriptures that lend themselves toward the spirit of encouragement. Yet it was a common ordinary house fly sitting on a windshield going down the road at 50 miles per hour that finally penetrated my thick skull. Many years ago I wrote a couple of short stories about a common house fly named Sigmond and now after all these years Sigmond is back alive and well. After getting the paper I returned to my car to find Sigmond gone.
I am not sure what circumstances you’re facing but I do know God’s message through an ordinary (at times disgusting and pesky) housefly named Sigmond illustrates that through your faith in God you can hold until such a time when all is calm.
Oh, one more thing – when God wants to give you a lesson on life do not limit his ability to use whatever he wants to use. With God what he communicates is much more important than how he communicates.
BE strong in the LORD!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
