Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
What Jesus says…
“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12, ESV)
Following high winds that ripped at the mountains, an earthquake, and next an out-of-control fire Elijah heard the LORD in “low whisper”. There are times when praying I feel the need to remind God I worked in a factory for over forty years therefore my hearing has taken a beating and isn’t what it used to me so I say something like this, “God, you know my hearing isn’t what it used to be so can you speak loud enough for me to hear you?” And usually God answers my prayer by intensifying the storms. Which is a very effective means of getting and holding my attention.
Last night as I was thinking about this morning’s Glory Seed and making final preparations for bedtime I found myself wondering what does Jesus want to say. If Jesus was writing this what would he write? Would it be something we’d not understand? Would it be written in Hebrew? Would it be humorous? Would he chastise us? Would he talk about his disappointment in us? Would he encourage us? Would he teach us? Would he prophesy to us?
What Does Jesus Want to Say? Actually the answer is quite simple. Jesus will always say what needs to be said, when it needs to be said, and in a manner it needs to be said. Today Jesus is saying, “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.” (Matthew 5:3, The Message) To put it another way Jesus says, “When you let go and let God in losing you will gain, in weakness you become strong, in conflict you become peaceful, in sorrow you will get joy, when you repent you will be forgiven.”
Not a day goes by but at some point we need to quiet ourselves and join Samuel and say, “Speak (LORD), I’m your servant, ready to listen.” (1 Samuel 3:10, The Message)
BE strong in the LORD!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
