Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

Praying for the poor AND THE rich!

Yesterday we considered the poor. Today we NEED to consider the rich because they are just as important as anyone else. Just because Jesus said it is hard for the rich to get into heaven doesn’t mean they can’t, it just means the rich must “get past themselves” first. That’s where those of us who are not rich (by worldly standards) come in. Whoever has Jesus in their heart are rich beyond their wildest imagination! If you are under the impression you are poor then consider this. “But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” (Acts 3:6, ESV)

It has been said that we cannot out give Jesus, it is also true we cannot run out of enough Jesus to give away!

Now let’s get back to those the world considers rich. We are told over and over to pray for the poor, and we do. Then should we not also pray for the rich? I don’t mean we pray they open their bank accounts, we NEED to pray they open their hearts to God so God can open their hearts. Jesus once said we’d always have the poor among us, shouldn’t we also believe the rich will always be among us as well? Just as we do something for the poor we should also do something for the rich – PRAY.

The bible says a great deal about the poor but it also says this about the rich. “Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him; the Lord protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.” (Psalm 41:1–2, ESV) When we pray for the rich that is the message when given by the Holy Spirit will get them past themselves. I know that to be true because as Christians that is the message that enables us to give, and give, and give Jesus to others just as Peter did.

One last thought. The rich are not enemies of the poor. It is greed and pride who are the real enemies of both the rich and poor. As Christians it is our responsibility to give the portion of Jesus away we’re given to the poor, AND THE rich. When we do we have this promise from Jesus himself. “…give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38, ESV, emphasis mine) Such is the way of the KINGDOM!

BE strong in the LORD!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!
