Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

Celebrating the Gifts of Christmas 2015…

Today we celebrate the Gift of Faith. You might recognize these adapted readings from the bible (my humble apologies to the writers). “Without faith I am nothing, going nowhere.” And, “I can do all things as deemed expedient by God through faith in Jesus.”

Faith most often is connected with believing and that it is but there is another element of faith that needs as much recognition as believing and that is doing or acting upon our belief. The following scripture while not mentioning faith at all is a story of pure holding-nothing-back-faith the kind of faith God asks us to have in Him. “…and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” (Luke 21:2–4, NKJV)

For me it is a faith anchor story because on the surface it makes you think Jesus is talking about money but below the surface to the poor widow and Gary Piper it goes far beyond a couple of coins. Her giving while appears to be about her below the surface it’s about her trust and belief in God’s promise to take care of her. It’s about this her belief and (mine) in – “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” (Psalm 23:6, NKJV)

Another faith story I anchor my life on is found in chapter 2 of Luke. “So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:15–16, NKJV) The part that fascinates me about the shepherds and speaks volumes about faith is they left their sheep defenseless they left their livelihood and went looking for Jesus.

Please read this paragraph in the first person because it is OUR story not just mine. Faith, life has taught me is not putting my trust in what I want out of life or for my life faith nor is faith leaving my hopes and dreams behind faith is giving them to God and giving him permission return them to me as they fit into His plan for my life. And while some of my hopes and dreams have never materialized my belief, trust, and faith in God continues to carry me into the future.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!

Gary
