Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise

Celebrating the Gifts of Christmas 2015…

Following their visit to the stable the shepherds while making their way back to the sheep told others that the long awaited Messiah was in a stable behind the Inn. Upon hearing of the Messiah’s arrival two men strangers to each other headed for the stable. Josiah, who walked in a great deal of pain, heard the Messiah would be able to heal handicaps. Moriah, who was blind, had heard the Messiah would be able to give sight to the blind.

Because of their handicaps, neither could move fast so by the time they arrived the sun had come up. Moriah arrived first, “Can you take me to where the Messiah is so I can touch him?” he asked a stranger. As his fingertips touched the soft head of Jesus he instantly realized the Messiah was a baby yet he was filled with a power so powerful his blindness no longer mattered and even though he still couldn’t see he knew the Messiah had healed his blindness.

Minutes later Josiah hobbled into the stable, “Where is the Messiah so he can heal me,” his voice was filled with excitement. “He’s there,” Moriah replied pointing at the manger, “and he healed me of my blindness!” Turning in the direction of the manger Josiah suddenly stopped, “A baby! The Messiah is a baby! No way can a baby heal anyone,” he shouted and limped slowly and sadly away.

“Please sir, don’t believe everything you see with your eyes. It may be true that babies can’t heal but God can! If you’ll only reconsider and come back and touch the baby your eyes will be opened as were mine,” Moriah pleaded. “You say you were healed of your blindness. Why can’t you see?” He asked abruptly. “I am healed,” Moriah replied, “it was my blindness that handicapped me. I now see that blindness is a part of my life not a handicap. Please reconsider, won’t you?”

Throwing the manger another quick glance Josiah’s and Jesus’ eyes met and Josiah knew Moriah was telling the truth. Without saying a word, the crippled man limped to the manger and took the tiny hand of Jesus. As the baby flashed a smile at him, Josiah suddenly felt something warm move from Jesus’ hand into his right leg. “I am healed!” He shouted as he jumped into air. At that precise moment, a bright flash of white light momentarily stunned Moriah as it dissipated a baby lying in manger came into focus, “I can see!” He shouted.

Suddenly the silence of the stable was broken by the words of Isaiah the prophet, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6, NLT)

Trust first with your heart, then with your eyes! May each of you experience the unequaled power of God through the birth of Jesus today and everyday!

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!

Gary
