Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
God came to us… And stayed!
“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:4–5, NLT)
I don’t know about you but since the beginning of the Advent Season I have been praying, worshipping, investigating, waiting, anticipating, and celebrating Jesus’ birth. And this year, like every year, Christmas Eve and now Christmas Day pass away with no real fanfare, nothing happens that is worthy of such a momentous occasion. Shouldn’t there be something out of the ordinary, something miraculous like the sudden arrival of Angels singing “Peace on earth goodwill toward all?” Am I not as worthy as the shepherds were that wonderful night long ago?
Of all the Christmas’ Patti and I have been wife and husband for me this year has been the quietest. We went to church for the Christmas Eve Worship Service, came home exchanged gifts with family members, but we have one son that could not make it home (he’ll come home later) as we talked and opened gifts for me there was a feeling of emptiness because he was not with us. I also remember feeling the emptiness the Christmas our oldest son was away during the Desert Storm crisis.
I can’t help but wonder if somehow God too felt a feeling of emptiness in Jesus’ absence. I know because God sees the entirety of time He may not have experienced a feeling of emptiness like we do but because I have experienced the emptiness of a missing son I have a greater appreciation for the sacrifice God made for me.
No, there was no fanfare, no angelic message this year for me but my Advent experience has changed the inner me and even though I still have a troubled heart because God came to me and stays Jesus has accepted my heart and I have accepted his.
The birth of Jesus sustains each and every one of us! Merry Christmas from Patti and Gary Piper! And please remember, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
