Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
God’s got your back, front and both sides!
“For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.” (Psalm 22:24, NKJV)
Have you ever found yourself praying, “What next God, where do we go from here?” I have, in fact I was doing exactly that as the words found their way from my mind to my computer screen. Actually in all honesty, it’s not the first time I used them in a conversation with God nor will it be the last time either. I’ve probably read Psalms 22 a hundred times or more and never has a verse in it hit me as hard as verse 24 did this morning (I’m writing this on 02/02) and it wasn’t until a few moments ago when I realized why they impacted me as hard as they have.
I believe there are two basic reasons why afflictions find their way into our lives. The first one is afflictions test our faith. The second one is afflictions solidify the ongoing deepening of our relationship with God. In the infancy of our relationship with God afflictions help in developing a relationship with Him. As our relationship matures there comes a point when our faith becomes sufficient for us to know God will not turn His back on us it is at that point when afflictions go from tests to anchors.
This morning when Psalms 22:24 grabbed me I found myself checking some of the other bible versions when I came across Eugene Peterson’s translation it was as if the Psalmist was sitting in my own living room talking to me. “Gary, I heard him saying, “He has never let you down, never looked the other way when you were being kicked around. He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening.” (Psalm 22:24, The Message)
“…He has beenright there, listening.”Never in our LIVES, have those 6 words been as important as they are right now. I used “OUR LIVES because even though my need to know God is RIGHT HERE with memay differ from yours you need to know God is RIGHT THERE with you too!
And finally, “Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?” (Hebrews 13:5–6, The Message)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
