Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
Easter a story of Hope…
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” (John 4:13-15, ESV)
The woman did not need to ask Jesus a second time for his “living water”. I can’t help but wonder if she had any idea of the blessing that would “play itself out” for the rest of her life. We’ll never know what the woman’s name was (at least in this life) but we could easily put ourselves in her place. Like the woman at the well, do we really know what blessings await us tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day? With times such as they are we can’t really be certain what awaits us tomorrow.
When I read “…whoever drinks of the water I will give him will never be thirsty again,” I immediately thought of the Shepherd’s Psalm. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalms 23:1-6, ESV)
The underlying blessing of Easter is Hope, not just the Hope of eternal life but the Hope that God will give us what we need when we need it on a daily basis. God reassures of His upcoming blessings in the Easter story in Psalms 31. “But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God. ”My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors! Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love! (Ps 31:14-16, ESV)
No matter what happens between now and when heaven’s door swings open our future isn’t just in good hands it’s in God’s Hands!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
