Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
Confessing and forgiveness time…
Lately life has been getting a bit overwhelming to the point where I wanted to complain to God about the situations life has thrust upon the two of us (my wife and I). I wanted my complaint in writing (we sure do crazy things sometimes, don’t we) so I opened “This is my life journal”, a password protected file I use to write about my response to life. As I prepared to begin airing my frustration with life suddenly confronted by the Holy Spirit, I stopped “dead in my tracks” convicted by the following scripture. “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” (Romans 7:24 NLT)
One thought affixed itself in my mind: negativism begets negativism. How does one so blessed as I am (sure I’ve a lot of things going sour, but then who doesn’t) succumb to negativism? Especially when you consider God through the Holy Spirit has been my (yours too) lifelong companion providing me (us) with the strength and insight to understand through the “sour” situations “…God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28 NLT)
The answer to the above question can be answered with the dreaded and deadly three-letter word: SIN. Paul’s answer to “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” Is found in verse 25, “The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.” (Romans 7:25 NLT)
Jesus is God’s answer and solution to my (our) SIN problem! God has chosen not to take away my “sour” things and I am okay with that even though there are times when they do get overwhelming. And in the spirit of repentance I pray… “Loving God, I hear your invitation, “Come back to me” and I am filled with such a longing to return to you. Show me the way to return. Lead me this day in good works I do in your name and send your Spirit to guide me and strengthen my faith. I ask only to feel your love and forgiveness in my life today.”**
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
