Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

The apostle Paul and a mentor…

If I had to describe what my life is all about, who I am, what I am doing, where I am going, I would have to say ditto to the apostle Paul because he took the words right out of my mouth. “This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities. And so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ. My task is to bring out in the open and make plain what God, who created all this in the first place, has been doing in secret and behind the scenes all along.” (Ephesians 3:7–3:9, MSG)

Do you remember your first encounter with Jesus? It is our first encounter with him that opened the gateway to our life’s spiritual journey. If we asked Paul about his life after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, he’d tell us his life’s work included constantly refining and deepening his relationship with Jesus. He’d tell us it was only because of his relationship with Jesus he was able to do his, “preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ.”

The apostle Paul makes a great Lenten/Easter mentor because he is an inspiration to a wonderful role model, a powerful teacher. Even though he lived long before our time his writings are timeless and instrumental in helping all of us close the gap between Jesus and us. One of Paul’s standout lessons emphasizes God was, is, and will be working, “in secret and behind the scenes all along…”

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!

  1. I have witnessed this working while walking with my son in his journey from psychosis to recovery and indeed God has been working all along. Even the therapist noted that we had changed courses but the results were fruitful, sometimes just an attitude adjustment makes all the difference thanks so much for these reaffirming words
