Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

Planting seeds…

The Book of Mark illustrates how we can spiritually prepare ourselves. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seeds on the ground. He sleeps at night and is awake during the day. The seeds sprout and grow, although the man doesn’t know how. The ground produces grain by itself. First the green blade appears, then the head, then the head full of grain. As soon as the grain is ready, he cuts it with a sickle, because harvest time has come.” (Mark 4:26 – 2:29)

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus riding into Jerusalem we join with the people and declaring him Messiah, we can see the tears in his eyes because he knows their shouts of joy will soon turn to shouts of anger.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus chasing the moneychangers from the Temple we see that we must chase away the “moneychangers” from our lives in preparations for God’s greater blessings. God cannot fill something that is already full.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus’ trial we can see that life will do the same to us we’ll be put on trial not because we are guilty of anything but because we stand against the things the world expects of us.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus’ long trek through the streets carrying his cross we learn that we too must persevere not matter how severe our difficulties and along the way God will provide friends who will help us carry our crosses.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus’ death on the cross we come face to face that we too must give our lives (not necessarily physically) so that others may live.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus’ entombment we can see what life did to Jesus. We also begin to realize that entombment goes beyond the burial of our bodies extending into our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual lives as well.

When we “plant the seed” in our minds of Jesus’ resurrection we experience what only God could do for Jesus. Then we’ll begin to realize that what God did for Jesus HE WILL DO FOR US. We’ll begin to realize there is no tomb whether it be a six foot deep hole, physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual tomb powerful enough to hold us hostage when Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross frees us!

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!

Grace and PEACE, Amen!

Gary
