Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
Confessions of a runaway…
One of my favorite stories Jesus used to teach people about the extent of God’s love is the story of shepherd leaving his flock and going in search of one sheep that wandered off. In fact, I wrote a fictional story titled “Founder” about it. It is one of my favorites because it’s my own story. I am the sheep that not only wandered but still at times wanders off. It not only mystifies me how after all the LORD has seen me through I still wander off from time to time, it’s also a source of embarrassment me to admit it.
As a former runaway and oft times present tense runaway I can add another element to Jesus’ story. In his story the shepherd went in search of the sheep, but there have been times in my own story when God has patiently waited for me to make my way back to Him. In fact, as I write this I am on my way back If you’ll recall in the parable of the Prodigal Son he was in a pigpen eating the food the pigs when he received his wake up call. My wake up didn’t come while I was in a pigpen eating pig’s food it came while I was in the bible eating the words. I want to share my wakeup call with you with the hope that it might pre-wakeup call.
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength…. So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. …He will be gracious if you ask for help. He will surely respond to the sound of your cries.” (Isaiah 30:15, 18, 19, NLT, emphasis mine)
Please go back and read the bold portions again and again until the Holy Spirit embosses them on your heart. And never forget God is YOUR God! Jesus is YOUR Savior and Intimate Friend!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
