Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

The God who works…

Talking about the uniqueness of God John Piper (no relation) in his series titled Look at the Book quoted Isaiah, “Listen to me, descendants of Jacob, all you who remain in Israel. I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” (Isaiah 46:3–4, NLT)

The Apostle John wrote, “We love God because He first loved us.” This morning I would like to take John’s words and put a twist on them. “We work for God, because God first worked for us.” God is not idle, therefore we must not be idle. When I first heard John Piper talk about the idea that God is a working God I thought he was reducing God to some sort of a slave. However, when further thought about God as the Creator I quickly pushed that idea out of my head and accepted the fact that God is indeed a working God, hard at work in my life.

As Piper hi-lighted different points in the scripture, I began to associate them with incidents in my own life where God needed to work hard on my behalf. The first point I concluded takes in consideration our entire life up to today, “I have carried you since you were born,” Yet God did not stop there seeing and fulfilling our need for hope He gives us this promise, “I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white (and thin) with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”

I am not sure if you’ve ever heard the song “God is watching you from a distance, or not but as far as I am concerned it goes against everything we Christians believe. “I will be with you always until the end of the age,” are not just words for a hand full of people gathered to watch Jesus disappear into the heavens they were meant for you and I too. God has not promised us an easy life and you and I know that to be true but his promise, “I will be your God throughout your lifetime!” has sustained us and will continue to sustain us through good times and bad times.

Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!

GRACE and PEACE, Amen!

Gary
