Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

God! The ultimate Fixer Upper…

PEACE be unto you!

Patti and I like to watch a show on the HGTV channel titled “Fixer Upper” is it a show about a couple that renovates broken down homes. As I watch how the home goes from the demolition phase through the renovation phrase to the completed home I can’t help but think of what God does in our lives. The show reminds me of Psalms 127, “Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.” (Psalms 127:1 NLT)

As the fixer upper couple goes about renovating the house not only do they tear down walls, put up new walls, tear up flooring, tear out cupboards, and other projects to bring the home to completion they also fix up what is broken. Sometimes they rewire old wiring, fix broken plumbing, repair cracked foundations, and even exterminate termites and other invading bugs if they need to. You and I know God goes about our lives not only renovating and remodeling our lives He takes what is broken in our lives and adds His Spirit sometimes replacing what is broken and other times adding whatever it needs to see that it remains in working order.

The only real difference between the TV show Fixer Upper and the God as Fixer Upper of our lives is the show always ends showing the new homers their the home of their dreams. God’s process of renovation, remodeling, and fixing up our broken lives is ongoing. Day in and day out God is intimately at work in our lives tearing down, building up, repairing, replacing, strengthening, cleaning up, and clearing out. Then one day we will stand and like the new home owners of the TV show God will pull back the picture of our old lives and we’ll see our new eternal lives and all of God’s hard work will pay off. I know it can be kind of frightful and painful but it will be worth it!

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34 NLT)

Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!

Gary
