Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

What Jesus hears in our prayers…

PEACE be unto you!

“Praise the LORD! For He has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” (Psalms 28:6-7 NLT)

Jesus, LORD of my life, I want to be happy again, I want to laugh in the face of adversity, I want to celebrate what I have rather than stew over what I don’t have. I want to be super-human. I want to be able to leap the bounds of this materialistic world. I want to be able to go faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive. Amen.”

Do the words of that prayer come as a shock to you? Are you wondering if my faith just flew out the window? As unrealistic, as some of them are they don’t surprise me. Does that disappoint you? For me they express my ongoing struggle to grow and deepen my relationship with Jesus, the LORD of my life. For me one of the great mysteries of life is why am I unable to get past the obsession of not needing God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. That may not only be the greatest mystery in my life but in all likelihood it’s the greatest struggle as well. When I think about the inner turmoil we struggle with on a daily basis I believe it does us good to bring them out into the light of our faith in God.

Let me tell you how I think Jesus understands the 70 words that comprise the above prayer. First of all to us they may appear to be a “prayer of petition” but even though they make some valid and some outlandish requests the first five words turn them from a prayer of petition to a prayer of confession and a prayer for mercy.

Knowing me as He does here’s what Jesus hears me praying. “Jesus, YOU ARE LORD of my life and because you are LORD of my life even though there are times when I think if I were super-human I wouldn’t need you but because I live in the real world I have needs that only you can supply. Please help me find and experience what I cannot find on my own. Amen.”

Jesus not only hears your prayers He also understands your prayers!

Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!

GRACE and PEACE,

Gary
