Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing

An Expedition into the Light-Yes Land of fear

PEACE be unto you!

“The LORD is my light and my salvation–so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?” (Psalms 27:1)

I’ve never really stopped long enough to really go into the nitty-gritty of what fear is and how it plays an important part of my life. Until now. As I begin my expedition into the Light-Yes Land of fear I first need to center myself around the fact that fear is a necessary and important part of life, it is not something to be skirted around or denied but an emotional tool to be used. Having come to that conclusion the next part of the expedition is to reconcile Jesus’ instruction (bordering on a commandment) not to be afraid.

In light of what Jesus had to say about being afraid and since I believe fear is a necessary part of life that means there’s an imaginary line dividing fear as a positive experience and fear as a negative experience. Jesus defined the line in the Sermon on the Mount, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34, emphasis added) I understand Jesus to be saying, “Once fear has taken on the identity of worry you have crossed the border into the “Light-Less land” of negativity.

Before going further I need to clarify the use of “Light-Less” rather than using the word dark. On the surface it may appear as if I am just making a play on words but I am not. For me there is a huge difference from living “Light-Less” and living in the dark. “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12) Light has a permanency about it whereas darkness is only temporary. When it is dark out there still is light it is only shining somewhere else and eventually life will go from dark to light. Jesus will never leave those who believe and trust him Light-Less, “…And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) However, when it is Light-Less there is no light therefore since there is no light forthcoming there is no hope. The danger of a Light-Less world originates from the fact that one can be bathed in the brightest light and still live in a Light-Less world.

Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!

GRACE and PEACE,

Gary

  1. Perhaps the light-less times are those in which we are placed in God’s shadow, or in the cleft of the rock .? But they are not dark for sure but a place of rest, learning and reconnecting with the Source. Thanks for this thought today

    • Good morning my friend… Your point is well taken… Sounds like verses from Psalms 63,,, “O God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen You in Your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise You! I will praise You as long as I live, lifting up my hands to You in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise You with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of You, meditating on You through the night. Because You are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings. I cling to You; Your strong right hand holds me securely.” (Psalms 63:1-8 NLT)

      • Yes in the shadow of His wings , or the cleft of the rock all under protection for learning, and resting and being in and with Him
