Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
Let us pray for one another…
PEACE be unto you!
James not only councils us in one of the most important daily spiritual activities we can undertake is to prayer for others but also tells us it’s benefit. “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16)
If you’ve ever wondered how important it is to us personally to hold others up in prayer, wonder no more! “Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life.” (Psalm 54:4, NKJV, emphasis mine) I am alive (spiritually) today because people like you, and you, and you took time out from your life to pray for me. I am alive (spiritually) today because I took time out of my life to pray for people like you, and you, and you.
Before going any further, I need to ask for your indulgence because for the purpose of this morning’s Glory Seed I am going to take James 5:16 out of context. I understand the circumstances James was addressing when he told people to confess their sins to each other but I want to use sin in its wider meaning. The results of sin are separation from God therefore by repenting (confessing) we are confessing our need for God.
When we ask others to pray for us we are confessing our need for God and our faith that God answers prayer. At the same time when we pray for others (and ourselves) we are confessing our faith and need for God.
Paul writing to the Roman Christians and us what happens when we take the time to pray for one another. “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” (Romans 3:22–24)
I am a living testimony to the power of YOUR prayers!
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
