Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
Caught up in the greatest mystery of all…
“Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2:12, ESV)
The other day I drove past a tire and auto store with a sign out in front that read “Free Air” and next to the tire and auto store is a gas station where the air isn’t free. I don’t know what there is about those two signs but each time I see them I think all of God’s blessings given me over the 70 years of my life. Yesterday on the way to church we stopped and I bought a bottle of water for $1.58 about half a mile from one of the biggest sources of fresh water in the world.
The free air sign and the cost of a bottle of water remind me of two separate but related truths about my life. As long as I live there will always be cost associated with living yet at the same time God has freely given me life. I understand the need for the “cost of living” (although I don’t understand the greed that comes with it) but I sometimes struggle with the “cost free” gift of life given me and sustained in me by God.
I don’t struggle with the life God has given me as much as I struggle with God giving it to me in the first place and when I think about God I join the Psalmist in asking God, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3–4, ESV)
I don’t know how God answered the Psalmist but each time I ask Him I always receive the same answer, “I am, Who I am.” At times like this when I find myself caught up in the mystery of God I think what He wants the most is for me to enjoy the life He has given me now because I will have plenty of time to get to know Him when my body is no longer able to sustain life.
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
