Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
The LORD helps those who help others…
“Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” (Psalm 28:6–7, NLT)
“He helps me…” I’ve never really stopped to consider how important it is to me to maintain my own sense of accomplishment. Yet on the other hand when I do consider some of the things I’ve accomplished I have to do so minus the “I” and instead add the LORD to the mix. For example when I find myself reading past Glory Seeds or other writings I put my name to I’ll comment, “Wow! I wrote that?” But immediately I’ll correct myself, “Wow! We wrote that My Friend!” (My Friend is the written name I give to the Holy Spirit.)
This may sound silly but there are times when I wonder since there are so many things I need the LORD’s mercy, strength, and help in does He think of me as a “a wimpy 90 pound weakling”? Or perhaps the question of being a “a wimpy 90 pound weakling” is more important to me instead? Once upon a time the answer to those questions held a great deal of importance to me especially when you consider we live in a world that believes in “survival of the fittest”.
While I believe totally in the concept it is more blessed to give than receive there are times when to be blessed we must be on the receiving end. The LORD in chapter 66 of Isaiah says it best, “My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2, NLT, emphasis mine)
Please take a minute and look at your hands. Go ahead I’ll wait. Now consider this – your hands have the potential of being the hands of the LORD. Even though He doesn’t need help there are times when He chooses to help through you. Because not only is it more blessed to give than receive but the LORD helps those who help others as well.
Each one of us has a standout helper/giver sanctioned by the LORD in our lives (mine is Patti my wife) take a few minutes this morning thank God for them.
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
