Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…

Locked and unlocked doors…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT)

Thursday morning I got up early around 6:15 AM as usual made my coffee turned on my computer, took my blood glucose reading, picked up my computer headed for the front porch to get my day started, turned around to go back and get my cup of coffee and promptly discovered the door was locked. I locked myself out of our cabin at 6:30 Patti was asleep in the lower bedroom, Bonnie and Jon asleep in the upper bedroom. After forgetting about waking Patti up I decided to make the best of it.

Here’s a paragraph out of my journal for that day… Locked out! I locked myself out of the house LORD! I didn’t even think to look to see if the door was locked! There’s a story in there, a story of neglecting the important things. But on the other hand there’s also a story of always moving ahead because we lock the past behind us. Yeah, I like that one better. Jesus opens the doors ahead of us and we lock the doors behind us!

“Jesus opens the doors ahead of us and we lock the doors behind us!” I am sure you know where I am headed with this one, aren’t you. Before going on here’s what Jesus has to say about locked doors. “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.” (Revelation 3:8, NLT)

Okay, now where was I? Oh yeah, I was going to tell you the lesson the Holy Spirit taught me after locking myself out of the cabin and my coffee. “Gary,” allow me to use first person language, “you cannot live in the past it is okay to remember it and learn from it but you must lock the door behind you and walk through the Open Door into the newness and adventure of each new day as you walk with Jesus.” I had begun to feel disheartened by the fact that I could not do some of the things Patti and I did on previous trips to the Smoky Mountains and the Spirit. Instead of locking the door to the past I was locking the door to the present and future blessings associated with the inspiration, beauty, and unique presence of God in the Smokies.

Got some doors you need to lock and walk through a new door?

Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!

PS… It’s great to be back in the world of the World Wide Web!
