Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…
Old Man River and the Holy Spirit
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.” (Psalm 19:1–6, NLT) What is true of the heavens is also true of the earth as well! Yesterday while sitting at the River (the St. Clair River dividing U.S and Canada), one of my favorite places on earth I wrote in my prayer journal…
Sun’s UP! And Old Man River just keeps moving on! I find the flow of the River fascinating. The water seems to keep moving toward the south yet it never empties. There’s a spiritual lesson in there somewhere, a very powerful one. Could it be that the flow of the River is similar to the Flow of the Spirit, moving things but never emptying Himself? Humans have for a long time sought a source of energy that is self energizing. And the unique thing is it’s all around us in the sun and the movement of rivers. The Holy Spirit is the most powerful self-sufficient source of energy anywhere in any galaxy. The Holy Spirit is the greatest source of perpetual energy/power anywhere!
The movement of the sun, the flow of a river, the gusting winds are not only forces of nature they are also symbols of God moving in and through our lives through the Holy Spirit. While in and of themselves they are natural occurrences when viewed through the eyes of your heart they become the living presence of God. Even though the forces of nature have destructive potential yet at the same time with one voice they proclaim the unparalleled and uncompromising Lordship of God, “I am still in control,” they declare in one voice on behalf of God. There are a couple of things puzzling me, why is it humans wait until a “natural disaster” happens before coming to the aid of those struggling under the weight of overwhelming circumstances? In addition to that puzzle here’s something else to think about, disasters created by nature cannot “hold a candle” to the destructive power of unnatural disasters created by humans.
I love putting puzzles together and while I am unable to put those puzzles together there is one thing I am sure of Old Man River just keeps moving on and so does the Flow of the Holy Spirit! Come on in the water’s fine and the Spirit’s strong.
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
