Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…
The Psalms: Light for living…
“O Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?” (Psalm 10:1, NLT)
In Romeo, Michigan the Ford Motor Company has a proving grounds where new cars and trucks are tested on a track to ensure they are as best quality and as safe as humanly possible. I am sure the vehicles are put through situations we’ll never be in to ensure when we get behind the wheel we’ll be as safe as we can be.
The Ford Motor Company and car and truck companies’ in the entire world are not the first to have proving grounds. God was ahead of all of them, life is God’s Proving Grounds! In fact there are even times when God Himself tests us. However, when it is God testing us it is never to find our breaking point but to strengthen our faith. Our greatest asset against the worldly forces that seek to undermine our belief in God is faith. It is during those times when God becomes an observer that our faith is not only tested but strengthened.
In some ways faith is like the anchor of a ship once the anchor touches the bottom and the ship begins pulling on it the anchor embeds itself deeper and deeper into the bottom. But faith must never be alone, it must be accompanied by patience. Peter explains, “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” (1 Peter 1:6–7, NLT)
I am not sure how many times I prayed the same words as the Psalmist did in the first verse of this morning’s scripture but it must be in the thousands! This morning while thinking about where life has taken me the answer to both questions suddenly came to light. God tests us to see what we’ll do and how we’ll handle ourselves. Will we try to handle it on our own? Will we turn to others first for help? Will we turn to God first for help? Will we stop hoping things will work themselves out? Will we just give up?
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
