Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…

Taking stock of smooth times and rough times…

Have you ever taken time sat down all by yourself and reflected on your life taking stock of the smooth times and the rough times? Reflecting can be bittersweet especially if you’ve convinced yourself the rough times outnumber the smooth times. But as bittersweet and painful as it can be reflecting is necessary because it help us understand who we are and who we’ve become.

The other day while spending early morning alone time at a local McDonald’s I took the opportunity to do just that. I’d found a corner where I was pretty much by myself but anyone walking past would probably say to themselves, “Wow! He’s really watching something interesting,” because as my mind drifted my eyes were glued to my computer screen yet I didn’t even see the screen.

As usual I started focusing on the rough times thinking they far outweighed the smooth times when suddenly sandwiched between them smooth times began pushing their way in. The next thing I knew the smooth times overshadowed and pushed the rough times into the background. As the good times took over a great truth emerged, one I’ve never realized until that instant. Rough times are never over until God say’s they’re over.

As the Holy Spirit began working the lesson/revelation into my heart/spirit two scriptures from two different prophets formed anchored themselves into the history and mystery of my life. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” …“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT …Isaiah 43:19, NLT)

May the Holy Spirit replicate my experience in you.

“May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us.”**
