Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…

Winners and losers… Losers and winners…

Shalom!

Like millions of other people I was glued to the television set watching Game Seven of Baseball’s World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs. It proved to be a real on-the-edge-of-your-seat-nail-biter game with the Chicago Cubs winning the game in tenth inning by one run. Really I wanted the Detroit Tigers to win the World Series. But there’s always next year but when the Tigers were eliminated and the two teams were in place as game one began I wanted the Chicago Cubs to win. However, I didn’t want the Cleveland Indians to lose either.

A baseball game in which there is no loser? Is that possible? Not according to the rules of Major League Baseball it isn’t, there must be a winner and there must be a loser. That same principle applies to many circumstances in our world. When we wake up on November 9, 2016 in elections all over our country there will be winners and there will be losers. The principle of winners and losers has always been in our world and for the most part we’ve accepted it as a way of life with the exception of a few “sore losers” who end up losing in the end anyway.

While the principle of winners and losers may apply to our world it DOES NOT apply to God’s World! “Then Jesus said to his followers, “If any of you want to be my follower, you must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me. Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me will find true life. It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. You could never pay enough to buy back your life.” (Matthew 16:24-26 ERV)

According to Jesus (who made it possible) when you lose your life in favor of a relationship with Him (become a follower) you win IT ALL! The apostle Paul adds, “When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new! All this is from God. Through Christ, God made peace between himself and us. And God gave us the work of bringing people into peace with him.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-18 ERV)

The World Series is over and the Chicago Cubs and Fans are celebrating. For now! But with spring 2017 will come another season filled with winners and losers and the 2016 will just be a memory. But those who have lost their life to Jesus live in world where there are ONLY WINNERS!

“God, show mercy to us and bless us. Please accept us!”

GRACE and PEACE,

Gary
