Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…

Let the encouragement begin!

Shalom!

It has been awhile since I’ve written about our need for encouragement and I am discovering through experience the necessity to ever keep it in the limelight. Like the Holy Spirit we can never get enough encouragement. However, with even the least amount of encouragement can send us on a dangerous ego trip from which there may be no return.

Writing in my Journal the other day I wrote, “LORD, when I think of encouragement it is more than just kind words. To encourage someone is to become a builder, not a builder of structures, cars, or any “thing” but building a platform upon which new lives are built. I see You Jesus as the Contractor and others as the actual builders. LORD we need new dreams, new hope not hope that replaces God as our source of hope, but hope that energizes our ability to experience God’s encouragement and faithfulness.”

One source of encouragement is through our dreams, not our nightly dreams but the dreams we envision one day becoming a reality. Since 1997 Patti and I had dreamed of moving to the Smoky Mountains around Townsend, Tennessee, that dream along with the encouragement and strength from the Holy Spirit kept us going through some pretty trying times. Yet in the years following my retirement our dreams began to fade and along with them so did the encouragement we needed from them faded as well. While the Holy Spirit continues to encourage and strengthen us our dreams no longer offer us the much needed support.

I have discovered our trek “through the valley of the shadow of death” is not necessarily time oriented but circumstance and situation oriented. That for me is a “hard pill” to swallow because I am not necessarily a patient person. Encouragement does not necessarily bring an end to discouragement what it does is provide the motivation and strength to keep “plugging” away in addition to illuminating the Light at the end of the tunnel.”

By planting Seeds of Blessing it is my desire these Glory Seeds to become an added source of encouragement for you. Today’s Seed comes from the book of Hebrews. “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” (Hebrews 10:35–36, ESV)

May your focus on Jesus and may the Holy Spirit nurture and grow the Seeds of Blessing planted in you.

GRACE and PEACE,

Gary
