Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing Jehovah-Jireh…

God is not far-fetched!

Shalom!

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19, LEB)

I want to build on Paul’s insight into our lives (bodies) as a “temple of the Holy Spirit”. However, I need to warn you first I am going to take a promise from God found in the Old Testament out of context and stretch it to the breaking point and beyond, prayerfully with the endorsement of the Holy Spirit. After the completion of the Temple God appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him. ”…then if my people will humble themselves and pray, and search for me, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear them from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land. I will listen, wide awake, to every prayer made in this place. For I have chosen this Temple and sanctified it to be my home forever; my eyes and my heart shall always be here.” (2 Chronicles 7:14–16, The Living Bible)

As I’ve already stated I am taking God’s promise to Solomon and stretching it way beyond the Old Testament so it becomes a promise in your life today. I know you are not Solomon and I know you haven’t overseen the building of a magnificent Temple for the LORD God. But I do know you’ve taken Paul at his word and have been instrumental in building your life into a temple for the Holy Spirit to take up residence. And I know God has every intention of carrying out his promise given to Solomon in your life as well.

It may seem a little far-fetched after all how can the Holy Spirit be a resident in your life and mine at the same time. And we have a tendency to doubt and question things that are far-fetched. Take for instance the cartoon character Detective Dick Tracy and his two-way wrist radio. “On January 13, 1946,the 2-Way Wrist Radio became one of the strip’s most immediately recognizable icons, worn as a wristwatch by Tracy and members of the police force…” (Wikipedia, emphasis mine) I remember as a kid hearing people talk about how far-fetched a two-way radio small enough to fit on a wrist was, yet now 71 years later it’s not far-fetched at all, it’s now a reality. If you think God and his promises are far-fetched you don’t know God like I know God! I will admit humankind (including yours truly) has come up with some far-fetched concepts of God.

One last thing to think about… God is so far-fetched he tried to tell us he came to earth as a newborn baby named Jesus! Is there anything more far-fetched than that?

“May the Lord of peace himself give you his peace no matter what happens. The Lord be with you all.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16, The Living Bible)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary
