Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018…

Shalom!

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NLT)

If you’re like me you’re looking forward for the ending of 2017, I am suggesting 2017 was a bad year or a good year, it is what it is, but it isn’t what 2018 will be! While it is true there are always carryovers from one year to the next there are no carbon copy years. With each new year come new and exciting possibilities, new challenges. There will be gains and losses. There will be open and closed doors. There will be those who begin 2018 will not see it come to an end. And throughout every moment God will be here for us! The LORD in Joshua gives us a command to be strong and courageous because He is with us.

The Psalmist in turn tells us what God does for us and in us if we obey his command to be strong and courageous. I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the One who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD Himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. (Psalms 121:1-8, NLT)

One may get the idea that God is commanding us to be super disciples, yet as Paul writes it is the opposite that is true. “Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9–10, NLT)

With 2018 beginning I will be starting my 15th year of writing and producing Glory Seed Devotionals I have been trying to think of a Yearly Theme that not only illustrates why it is important do continue to deepen our personal relationship with Jesus. I have come up with a Theme that expresses what I will be attempting to do – “2018 Prelude to Life” based on the following scripture. “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NLT) I would like to take a little time for saying thank you to each one of you for following the Glory Seeds and my Glory Seed Blog. Since my physical world has shrunken over the past year I have turned to my laptop computer and internet to fulfill the promises I made to Jesus to tell his story to as many people as I possibly can, thank you for your prayers and support. I know as we move through 2018 we will find the Life Jesus is willing to give us not because of anything I write or do but because Jesus sends us the Holy Spirit as our constant companion. Thank you again and may you find Success and Life in 2018!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

A Prayer for 2018…

Shalom!

Dear Jesus,

Looking at 2018 our greatest need is to continue to deepen our relationship with you! The circumstances surrounding our life/living are so complex they are overwhelming and there is really no one under the sun able to bring Peace to our troubled world. It can only be done by You.

Come to us Lord Jesus. In our silent times we think about the New Year with all its possibilities and we feel inadequate so vulnerable. As much as we need your blessings of miracles it is your friendship and companionship we value more for they are like an Oasis in hot and dry desert. Many times, in course of the past year we have asked you to whisk us away yet deep in our heart we know we must not run away from storms but face them head on so please Lord come to us.

Create in us a new spirit, Lord Jesus. With the New Year will come new challenges so each and every day we0 will need to stand and face them. As we face each of them they will mold us into new persons if we face them alone we will become lonely people, if we face them with resources of this world we will become worldly, if we face them with the resources of your kingdom we will become children of God. Our desire for the New Year is place you in the forefront of our life/living not in prideful way but in humble way so we will see what you are doing for us and in us. Please Lord Jesus please take your rightful place in the forefront of our life/living for all to see that we do not struggle alone or in vain.

Create in us a new vision. Each person born into the world has been created in the image and likeness of God. When our eyes refuse to acknowledge the kinship of all we meet please remove from our eyes the scales that diffuse the Celestial Light that radiates from each life no matter how dim it has become.

Lord Jesus no matter how hard we try because we are imperfect it is inevitable will that we will fail you so please forgive our inadequacies and failures. And Lord if this is the year we will be called home prepare us to go willingly not because we want to escape but because we hunger to be with you in a complete and perfect way.

Amen!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

On The Bench Sacred Space Daily Prayer

The.Bench.Portal.into.Jesus.World

2017-12-28

Presence

As I begin this prayer, God is present, breathing life into me and into everything around me. For a few moments, I remain silent, and become aware of God’s loving presence.

Good Morning Jesus. First things first, I am thankful/grateful beyond words You’ve made it possible for me to be able to be in God’s presence. It is hard for me to imagine what You endured to make it possible for me. This paragraph has a great deal of importance to me since I’ve been my life/living has depended on God breathing in me. I have exceeded the life/living expectation of someone my age with pulmonary fibrosis. I am sure the medical profession will say it is the new medication I’ve been taking and no doubt that has helped, but the real credit goes to Jehovah-Jireh (the God who sees and provides). On different occasions I have prayed for a miracle healing and never received one, but what I received is a Divine Extension, one with no ending date!

Freedom

I will ask God’s help, to be free from my own preoccupations, to be open to God in this time of prayer, to come to know, love and serve God more.

Jesus, I am a disciple/follower! It is my need/desire to Serve and Love You and the Father to my full capacity. My writing ministry as crude as it can be at times has become my primary way of doing so. The Glory Seeds and Blogs have become many things to me perhaps near the top of my list is one big reason for me to do all I can to ensure Your Gift of an extended life/living Glorifies You. Jesus/God I learned a long time ago leaning on my own strength/understanding is a downward path. Help me LORD, help me!

Consciousness

Jesus, You are always there waiting for me. Grant that I may be still more often. That I may always desire to spend time in your presence. To know Your peace, Your love.

Jesus the picture I have chosen to symbolize my Sacred Space is a picture of an empty bench. Yet You and I know it is never empty because the Holy Spirit who cannot be seen with the human eyes is there waiting for me 24/7. Of all the many different “things” the Holy Spirit it You’ve taught me that the Spirit is Your Presence and the Father’s Presence not only on earth and on that symbolic bench, but in my heart as well. There is NO Peace in the bench, the Peace I need and get is in Who sits there patiently waiting for. I long for The Bench 24/7. Should this fall on anyone else’s eyes I Hope/Pray they too have their own Sacred Place.

Conversation

Sometimes I wonder what I might say if I were to meet you in person Lord. I think I might say, “Thank You Lord” for always being there for me. I know with certainty there were times when you carried me, Lord. When it was through your strength I got through the dark times in my life.

I know You’ve been carrying me since I exceeded my life/living expectancy! That adds up to about two and a half years! I know once I go my courage up enough to say, “Thank You,” I would then give You the biggest hug I’ve ever given anyone! As I look in life’s/living rearview mirror there have been many dark times, but now as I look into 2018 there is only Light, Your Light Jesus! It is my need/desire to reflect as much of that Light as possible! Jesus, I am weak You are strong!

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Since reacquainting myself with the Sacred Space Website my response to these Daily Prayers have been the catalyst I’ve needed for some time now. A couple of years ago when I was able ride my bicycle I would ride on a nearby nature trail and sit on a bench for awhile and connect not only with nature but You Jesus as well. It’s kinda neat the way those memories resurfaced again enabling me to take these verses to a deeper level. Thank You God. Thank You Jesus. Thank You Spirit!

AMEN!

Check out Sacred Space for yourself.

Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

In God’s Family…

Shalom!

I’ve never stopped to consider the birth of Jesus to be God’s Adoption Plan, but when I read today’s scripture the Light began shine. Paul said it this way. All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 1:3 NLT)

But what does it mean for you and I? First of it means we have dual citizenship, we are members of the human family and God’s Family. We already have a good idea about what it means to be a member of the human family. However, we haven’t even scratched the surface on what it means to be a member of God’s Family. The bible is filled with scriptures that can help us get a peek at life/living as a citizen of God’s family the four Sunday’s of Advent does a good job of summing them up, Hope, Love, Peace, Joy.

Perhaps one of the primary “happenings” as a citizen of God’s family is what it does not guarantee. We receive no guarantee “bad things” will not happen to us, what does happen is we see them in a different light. There’s a good chance our circumstances will change, it does however change us and the way we experience them. Chapter 16 in Acts provides us with a dramatic story of the difference between life/living in the Human family and God’s family.

“A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape. So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks. Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.” (Acts 16:22–25, NLT, emphasis mine)

But the story does end there what happens next is just or more important then praying and singing hymns to God. “Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”” (Acts 16:26–28, NLT, emphasis mine)

That’s my Jesus/Christmas story pulmonary fibrosis has imprisoned me and temporarily that is the path God has chosen for me and trusting in the Love, Compassion, and Strength of God I am going to make the best of it until God shakes the foundation of my prison. With His birth Jesus not only changed the world, He changed us as well!

The Light of Christmas continued…

Shalom!

While it was in the beginning when God said, “…Let there be light,” and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3, NLT) You could understand it in a different time and place. This may not be biblical, but what better way to understand and experience the birth of Jesus then, “Let there be Light?” And there was Jesus!

Consider for a moment these two inspirational and powerful verses written by the apostle Pau. “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” (2 Corinthians 4:6–7, NLT)

Had I penned those verses instead of Paul I would have written them, “God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made it possible for Jesus to shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God.” By adding those three words it becomes a choice whether Jesus shines in our hearts or not. Those who choose Jesus, Light shines in their heart 365/24/7, those who do not choose Jesus Light shines in their eyes 1/24.

As important as understanding our choice is what Paul wrote in verse 7 contain the “here’s what happens when the Light shines in our hearts,” awesome truth. One reason for Jesus to come as a baby was to illustrate our own fragility, if Jesus who IS the Son of God was fragile what does that say about us? Yet as the Light shines on and in our own fragility we are gifted the un-fragility of Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Christmas is not just about Jesus’ birth, Christmas is also about what Jesus did with His life/living and at the same time passes it on to us. Chose Jesus, and the Light WILL shine!

Jesus speaks to you once more, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”” (John 8:12, NLT, adapted)

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

The Gift of Heaven’s Light…

Shalom!

Christmas time is a time for lights! Tree lights. Window lights. Outside lights. Blow up Christmas figure lights. Illuminated star lights. Illuminated Santa lights. Illuminated manger lights. The Gift of Heavens Light! We have not only received the Gift of Jesus’ life/living, we have also received the Gift of His Light! “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” (2 Corinthians 4:7, NLT)

It has been quite a while since Patti and I were plunged into the dark because of a power failure, but not a day goes by when one or both of us find ourselves sitting in spiritual darkness. Unfortunately, that is not true with others, in the aftermath of the storms in the south the fires in the west people were sitting in darkness for days because the power was out. That scenario is representative of what happened the night Jesus was born and in the aftermath of His birth we experienced a massive spiritual power failure/blackout only to be immediately powered up by the “…one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, has come into your world giving His Light to you!” (John 1:9, NLT, adapted)

“Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine.” (Mark 4:21, NLT) Where is your light shining? This is the first year in 49 years of marriage Patti and I have not illuminated the outside of our home yet the very situations that have prevented us from decorating the outside of our home have turned up the intensity of Jesus’ Spiritual Light thus illuminating our life/living with Heaven’s Light, the Light that shines not only at Christmas but every day thereafter!

The Good News of Christmas is the Holy Spirit under the Ministry and Instructions of Jesus transforms our everyday darkening adversities into Heaven’s “Manna Light” instilling in us the Hope, Love, Peace, and Joy of Jesus to take us above the adversities and illuminating our dark world below.

The Miracle of Christmas is Light, but not just any light the Light of God as illuminated in the life/living of Jesus! Do not fear the today’s darkness because tomorrow, Christmas Day the Light will shine again!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit ”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Christmas is a time of _______________________…

Shalom!

Hurry, scurry, scurry, hurry! There are no doubt people out shopping for that last minute perfect gift for that special someone. The apostle Paul has a suggestion for the perfect gift for anyone. There’s no hurrying, no scurrying, and what’s even more unique there’s no cost. Yup! Even if its seem untrue it is true. It’s a gift based totally on Freely given, freely give! “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:4–5, NLT)

Christmas is a time of being given to and giving. I just watched a news clip where the Make a Wish Foundation turned a school gym into Whoville and granted a little boy who suffers from brain injury and pulmonary problems. Shopping with a Cop has been in our local newspaper lately. On Wednesday night December 6th members of the church we attend in Richmond Michigan 27 miles away 8 members of the church drove the 27 plus miles to our home for our Wednesday Night Bible Discussion and Worship Service.

Being freely given and freely give goes far beyond the month of December extending out into 365/24/7. This maybe rather hard to understand, but let your mind drift back across the years and try to imagine what your life/living would have been like had God withheld even the smallest Blessing. Our life/living may look like a giant jigsaw puzzle, but to God it’s a beautiful tapestry of ups and downs, ins and outs, around and arounds all with one purpose to share not only a relationship with Him, but with each other too.

When I was a child, I thought like a child, gimme, gimme, gimme. But now as a certified adult (sometimes) it’s give, give, give. There are times when I think I can’t give any more because the principle of “we can’t give with an empty tank” is a haunting reality. However, just as I realize I am “giving on fumes” God comes along or sends someone (like members of a distant congregation) and gurgle, gurgle, gurgle my tank is filled!

Christmas is a time of freely receiving and freely giving! Keep giving alive! May the Blessings of Christmas be yours now and throughout the years yet to come!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary
