Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

Peace… Be still…

Shalom!

“And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Matthew 8:23-27 ESV)

For many of us the story of Jesus rebuking the storm is real. We live our lives on a storm-tossed sea. The fierce wind and the huge white-capped waves toss and beat against our fragile lives as we desperately fight for all we are worth to stay afloat. The disciples knew Jesus was with them, yet they were still afraid I can’t help but wonder why because that same thing happens to me. Let’s use our imaginations and answer Jesus’ question and see where it goes from there.

Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?"

“I was afraid because I was going to die, Lord.”

“But I was with you in the boat.”

“I know that, Jesus but you were asleep.”

“But I was with you in the boat.”

“I know you were with me, but you were not aware of the danger we were in.”

“But I was with you in the boat.”

“Lord, I know you were with me in the boat, but you were not helping me.”

“But I was with you in the boat.”

“I know you were with me in the boat, but the wind was fierce, and the waves were powerful, and I couldn’t take much more so I became afraid. What was I to do, Master?”

“Have faith.”

“But, Lord you were sleeping.”

“To have peace is the exercise of your trust and belief that the Father’s time is not your time. Peace is exercising your trust and belief in me that when the time is right you will be blessed and dressed with the robe of peace. I am your sanctuary.”

One thing the story as recorded in Matthew doesn’t say is there were two storms stilled that day. One consisted of wind and water the other consisted of an immature faith.

Storms are the “stuff” peace comes from. Storms are life’s faith builder. With Jesus we’ll never encounters a storm he cannot still.

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,

Gary
