Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

The “I’s” have it…

Back home… again! Went into the hospital ER on Friday back home today! Thank you for your patience and not deserting me. Now let’s get on with the work!

In chapter 5 of John’s gospel Jesus chastises the religious leaders telling them they search the scriptures for eternal life and then tells them the scriptures point to him. I would like to put a stretch on what Jesus was talking about by inserting the word hope for eternal life. “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you hope. But the Scriptures point to me!” That does not diminish the importance of the bible instead it puts God up there where He belongs!

The Psalmist presents us a prime example of what I am saying. “The Lord says, “Whoever loves me, I will save. I will protect those who know me. They will call to me, and I will answer them. I will be with them in trouble; I will rescue them and honor them. I will give them a long, full life, and they will see how I can save.” (Psalm 91:14–16, NCV)

But the bible is not the only thing that points to God. The Psalmist tells us the heavens point to God. When you think about the Magi following the “Christmas Star” it wasn’t pointing out a city, it wasn’t pointing out a building, it was pointing at God born as a flesh and blood bouncing baby boy named Jesus. When John the Baptist was asked who he was he pointed to God who went to John to set an example to us. One of the things I am discovering is those health issues I am not facing point to God, not to themselves, to me, or the medical profession, but to God the Creator and Giver of Hope!

Christmas is a time of Hope! Not hope we’ll find just the right present for that special someone. Not hope we’ll find the right present under our tree. Not hope our anxieties and fears will suddenly be gone. Not hope that on Christmas Day and every day thereafter there will be peace on earth. I am sure those are important to people, but the fact of the matter is they all in one way or other are pointers point to God. And in the words of Crustyism 1.7… When you follow the path of the pointers and put your Hope in God all other hope loses their luster and life/living becomes brighter!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”**

Grace and PEACE,
