Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God…

Advent 2017 draws to a close!

Shalom!

Hope! Love! Peace! Joy! The Four Candles of Advent will be extinguished at churches all over the world Sunday leaving only the Jesus Candle flickering in rhythm to the air moving within the building. Out of the smoldering wicks come the hidden truth that the light of the world has given way to the Light of Heaven and a new day dawned, the Day of God.

I know each Advent Candle has its own unique place in the Christmas Season and Story yet for me especially this year they represent another aspect of the Blessing of Christmas. You may have to dig deep to discover how the following scripture has a special significance for Christmas. “Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering CANDLE…” (Isaiah 42:1–3, NLT)

That flickering candle is me! It is you and you and you and you and you! Do you know what happens when you bring the flame of a burning candle in close proximity of a candle that has just flickered out? If the candle is there on time suddenly just as the candle goes out it will burst into flames. Isaiah says the LORD will not put out a flickering candle, but there are other forces at work in our lives not as caring and compassionate as the LORD! On the fateful and profound night long as Jesus came into the world extinguishing the light of the world igniting the Eternal Flame of His Life we can have the Hope, Love, Peace, and Joy of knowing He stands at the ready to ensure the light of our life/living never goes out, NEVER!

As you may already know my candle flame flickers dimmer and dimmer with time, yet never in my life/living has the Eternal Flame of Jesus burned more brightly than it does right now. There are times when it burns so bright I need to look away but when I do I can feel the Hope, Love, Peace, and Joy warming my heart. Your candle flame may not be flickering like mine but the same Eternal Light of Jesus who made a not-so-grand-entrance into our shines and burns just as brightly and warmly as it does for me.

If you’ve ever wondered what the Essence of Christmas, of Jesus’ Life/Living is it can be reduced to 4 words: Hope! Love! Peace! Joy!

Merry Christmas from the 3 of us, Patti and Gary Piper, and Crusty T. Christian. May you walk throughout 2018 in the Eternal Light of Hope! Love! Peace! Joy!

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” **

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

  1. There is a scripture that speaks that as the flesh is perishing the inner man is strengthened. Praise God for you are a testimony of that strengthening in spirit. Thank you for your witness.

    • Thank you my friend for your encouragement and support it is just that depth of friendship that we all need! Isn’t it amazing what Jesus can do with us once we turned our lives over to Him. Have a Wonderful Merry Christmas and a successful New Year! –Gary
