Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

Generation upon generation…

Shalom!

“So I began to give myself over to despair concerning all my work that I had labored at under the sun. When there is a person whose work was done with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a person who has not worked for it, this too is futile and a great wrong.” (Ecclesiastes 2:20–21)

Where would you be had it not been for the sacrifices of previous generations? Humankind all too often takes for granted the blessings left upon them by their ancestors. While it is true, our generation has created what appears to be unsolvable difficulties. However, the same technologies that have been used to create the difficulties also contain the increasing capacity to solve them.

Therefore do not look at our difficulties with human eyes but give them a thorough examination through the eyes of God, think them through with the mind of Jesus, embrace them with the arms of the Spirit. Then once you are fully empowered by the Divine begin slowly line upon line, precept upon precept work toward a divine solution. Such has been the case over the millenniums of time as divinely inspired people have laid to rest many seemingly unsolvable difficulties.

The prophet Isaiah writing on behalf of God challenged the people of his day saying, “come and let us reason together.” That invitation and challenge is for our time and all time as well and out of it, divine help will come. Heaven has wonderful things for us but we must be spiritually prepared to receive them.

The ways of preparation are…

l Through prayer.

l Through practicing spiritual, mental, and physical discipline.

l Through earnest seeking.

l By becoming open to the inspiration that will come.

l By doing.

The seeds of faith we plant may never come to fruition in your day but because when empowered and embraced by the Holy Spirit you will not have labored in vain!

The seeds of faith you plant today will be the life sustaining “stuff” of tomorrow!s

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

When the Bible Prays…

Shalom!

The world would have us believe that it contains all knowledge, all wisdom, all inspiration, all discernment we need to not only survive but to thrive as well. However, the Living Word of God (the Bible) says otherwise, the Bible tells us Jesus is the Way, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) The Bible has also been referred to as “the Living Word of God” the Bible is not only 66 books but also thousands of prophetic words animated by the Holy Spirit.

While the life of the Bible is beyond our capacity to understand, the Bible as a living “being” with the help of the Holy Spirit communicates to us, with us, and for us. When it comes to praying God not only listens to us He also listens when the Bible prays for us as well. This morning the Bible prays these Words to you and for you. “And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment, so that you can determine what really matters and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11)

You and I know there are many voices “sugar coating” their worldly message to keep us from God, in response the Bible urges us to keep building and deepening our Love relationship with God, “…so that we can determine what really matters and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ.”

One of the common voices we all “hear” is a voice telling us God has pushed the “ignore button” on our prayers for help, but God not only listens to our prayers He also “tunes” into the voices calling out to us as well. And in response God pulls out all the stops giving us what we need to determine what really does matter. Consider this… It’s amazing what God goes through to draw us out of the world and into His presence. He gave us Jesus, so we can accept His sacrifice, so we can have eternal life. He gave us the Holy Spirit to replace Jesus, so we can accept His many and inclusive ministries, He gave us the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter, to be our Tutor, to be our Protector, and God also gave us the Bible as a way of communicating with us and communicating to Him for us as well.

With Jesus as our Advocate with God, the Holy Spirit as our 24/7 Holy Companion, and the Bible as a source of communication between us and God, and between God and us the world does not stand a chance.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

No God, No Patience – Know God, Know Patience!

Shalom!

“So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.” (Isaiah 30:18, NLT)

Once upon a time at our church camp north of Lexington, Michigan our oldest son came running up with his right eye nearly swollen shut. He’d been bitten by an insect of some sort. As parents our first notion was to put him in the car and head for the hospital in Port Huron. Something stopped us (probably the Holy Spirit) and convinced us to seek out a couple of church elders and have pray for him. After the prayer we then headed for the hospital and by the time we arrived (about 30-minute drive) the swelling was completely gone. When I think back on that experience from 40 years or so ago is it any wonder Isaiah tells us when storms come up don’t make God wait to Bless us, seek Him out FIRST! Don’t go anywhere but to God!

“Blessed are those who wait for his help…” Once we’ve made our needs known to God there’s a good chance the waiting game begins. When waiting on God Peter says this, “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.” (2 Peter 3:8,) In other words God is telling us He’ll Bless us in His own time and in His own way, the call is for is patience.

Patience is not only a rare “commodity” in our fast-paced world, but the lack of patience illustrates our need for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not only our connection with God but also is the real source of the patience (among other things) needed to wait for God to follow through with His help. “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Patience is not the ability to wait, patience gives one the ability to remain Hopeful while God works His Blessings into our lives.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

God knows!

Shalom!

“How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:21–24)

“I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” There’s nothing new about that statement I’ve used it many times and will continue to use it. Why? Because the father’s response is relevant and possibly true in each of our lives. In the bible the father was facing the loss of his son. That maybe true in your life today, or it maybe the loss of a relationship, the loss of a marriage or spouse, the loss of a career, the loss of your hopes and dreams, or the loss of your health or a loved one’s. If you are there or have been, you know what I mean.

The other day I slipped into a “pity-party mood” and as I sat in my chair celebrating out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a blurry object hightailing it out the window. It was my belief. Yesterday reflecting on my hightailing belief, I wrote in my journal. “It’s really something when one who has known You (God) their entire life and when they need You the most their belief in You and in the continual presence of the Holy Spirit falters and will not hold them up or strengthen them. It is the consistent and continuing active presence of the Holy Spirit keeps us going even after the “Energizer Bunny” won’t move anymore.”

Sunday morning before church Patti and I were watching a TV preacher leaving us with the impression there were some people along with Jesus who were perfect. “I’m not perfect,” Patti responded, “I’m human.” The father in the bible story above was also human. It was my human side the other day when I witnessed my belief fly out the window. The truth is if we weren’t human we wouldn’t need Jesus to not only forgive us but also give us an example to live and emulate.

One last thing I admire about the father in the story is his honesty! He was not afraid to admit not only to Jesus but anyone who was near them. His love for his son was more important to him then his need to be honest. One day at church I was giving my testimony of how I went from your typical sailor in a liberty port to a sin forgiven Christ follower and disciple. Later in the parking lot a man came up to me and told me he liked my testimony, but I was to honest. I thanked him for his remark and walked away thinking how can I be to honest when it comes to glorifying God. That is not without saying there are somethings that will remain hidden known only by God.

One last thing to think about – GOD KNOWS!

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

Jesus is all you need!

Shalom!

"I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan.” (Revelation 2:9, emphasis mine)

Do you ever talk to yourself? I do, and I am not afraid to admit it either because there are times when I’m the only one who has the answer I want. My philophsy skip all the “little guys” and go straight to the one who knows! Anyway, last night I found myself in a conversation with myself it went like this.

Me1… Wanna be rich?

Me2… Nope!

Me1… You don’t want to be rich?

Me2… Nope!

Me1… Why wouldn’t you want to be rich?

Me2… Cause!

Me1… Because why, tell me why!

Me2… Cause!

Me1… Look fella you gonna tell me or not?

Me2… Am rich.

Me1… You’re rich, I don’t believe it!

Me2… Got Jesus in my heart so I got everything I’ll ever need therefore I am rich!

Me1… Jesus makes you rich? Get real, man you can’t pay your bills with Jesus!

Me2… Nope! But you can’t your take money and all that fancy stuff with you either!

The conversation ended at that point. I smiled to myself, walked back to my computer and wrote this Glory Seed! End of conversation!

“Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!" This amazed them. But Jesus said again, "Dear children, it is very hard to enter the Kingdom of God. In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!" (Mark 10:23-25)

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

Standing on…

Shalom!

“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:13–14)

Russel K. Carter in 1886 penned the prophetic words of this famous song (I’ve included only 3 verses and the refrain).

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

One of the reasons I love the Psalms is because of their ability to bring hope and encouragement at just the right time and at the right situation. The particular verses quoted above are unique because their promises that are significant for this life! I will see the LORD’s goodness before I pass on! Yet as excited and as hopeful as they are they also contain words of caution, the goodness I will experience is God authored and God centered. The Psalmist puts it this way, “I will see the LORD’s goodness,” Jeremiah said it this way, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Jesus said this way,

“He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”” (Matthew 26:39) (emphasis mine)

The Promise is this: “By the living Word of God WE shall prevail,” Only God knows the goodness we will experience but then just experiencing God is all the Goodness we’ll every need! And finally, there’s this…

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

God never forgets…

Shalom!

“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the boat. He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede.” (Genesis 8:1, emphasis added)

GOD REMEMBERS YOU!

Allow the Holy Spirit to burn those words not only deep in your heart but also on the lens of your spirit where you can see them every minute of every day. God never forgets about you.

Speaking only for myself, there’s hardly a day goes by but at one point I’ll feel as if God has abandoned me and I rehearse words Jesus cried from the cross, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” Sometimes the feelings of abandonment last for minutes and rarely they last for several hours yet each time the Holy Spirit reminds me of the timelessness of God’s memory. My only problem with God’s timeless memory is my time bound memory yet out of love and compassion the Holy Spirit reminds me that God remembers Gary Piper and scriptures like Genesis 8:1 come alive.

I am not sure if you’ve ever found yourself thinking somehow God has forgotten about you or not but whether you do or not you can be sure GOD REMEMBERS YOU! Your fingerprints, your voice prints, your footsteps, your EKG are all imprinted on the timelessness of God’s compassion, grace, and love.

Today as you read these words allow the Holy Spirit to burn them deep in your heart because they are a promise to you that GOD REMEMBERS YOU! “…Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (Isaiah 43:1-3)

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary
