Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

Walking in the Light…

Shalom!

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”” (John 8:12, NLT)

This morning I was thinking of a very dear friend, Eldon Preston who passed away 6 years ago on January 14th after battling with a stroke that left him on a ventilator. I know in the early days when Eldon’s family tried to understand and experience life without him all they see is darkness. And with the darkness came powerful anxieties that have robbed them of the peace and tranquility Eldon left with them as he passed from this life into the next. Many who will read this have never heard of the Eldon Preston family, but they will have similar experiences as they try to visualize their life tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day.

Wouldn’t it great if we had a channel on our televisions or a website where we could watch or logon to see the future? We could turn on “Future Reality Television” or logon to FutureReality.com and know what would happen to us tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, ten years from now and plan our lives accordingly. Wouldn’t it be great if we could see so far into the future we could see ourselves reacquainted with our loved ones who have passes away?

But guess what? That’s right no such television channel or website exists! But what we do have is our faith that while the future belongs to us at present it rests in and exists in the foreknowledge of God who patiently and compassionately is leading us step-by-step where we have yet to go.

To the Eldon Preston family and friends and to all of us who have similar experiences the Prophet Isaiah offers these comforting words, “Who among you fears the LORD and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the LORD and rely on your God. “…Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.” (Isaiah 50:10, NLT)

And finally, “…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

  1. I have learned with my son’s schizoaffective disorder to accept each day as it comes , cherish the good days, look for the micro improvements , and hold on to hope because there will be bad days and in those times I remember the good ones and that God the Father remains in all things, over all things and through all things, amen
