Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

There are only good, better, best days…

Shalom!

“This came from the Lord; it is wondrous in our sight. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:23–24)

Monday, I wrote about having a bad day, this morning while writing my daily letter to God the Holy Spirit stepped in and scolded and reminded me since I’ve lived 3 or 4 years beyond the life expectancy of a patient with pulmonary fibrosis each day is a gift from God. Here’s a clip from the letter that start it all… Thank you for another day, what I should be doing thanking You for every day I wake up. And I need to drill into my thick skull any day I wake up is a good day! I am sorry for thinking otherwise.

Then remembering Psalms 118 I took it upon myself to change it slightly and promise the LORD… “This is the day the LORD has given me I will enjoy every minute of it!” For me there is what I consider a line (similar to the Mason Dixon Line) dividing a life lived in the “land of positivity” or in the “land of negativity” and it seems in our world today the “law of gravity” is in favor the land of negativity constantly pulling us downward.

While there is a great deal of workings behind the scene our perspective and imaging (imagination) on life plays a huge part in what side of the “line” we experience. I believe when we give our lives over to Jesus and the Holy Spirit becomes the wind beneath our “wings” we can view and experience all of life as we soar above the land of positivity. I know that does not change the circumstances pulling down on us, but what it does is overpower the forces of negative gravity and allows us to soar on wings like eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Has the land of negativity got a hold on you? If so, turn on your imaging (imagination) and feel the lifting winds of the Holy Spirit and join me in proclaiming there are only good, better, and best days!

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary

Glory Seed Devotional’s 2018 Experiencing Jesus, the Prelude to Life

Soaring on the Wings of the Holy Spirit

Shalom!

I am going to ask you a question, then I am going to answer it for you. Are you able to fly all by yourself with no outside help? “No, I can’t fly without help! Where you going with that question.” Well, actually I am not going anywhere but you are, you are going soaring on the Wings of the Holy Spirit. “Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:30–31)

That reading in Isaiah since finding it has been one of my favorites but I come across another one in Exodus that hints as why God carries us on the Wings of the Holy Spirit. “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.” (Exodus 19:4) By the way you might make a note we usually refer to the Holy Spirit as a Dove but in Isaiah the Spirit is referred to as an Eagle.

I like the reading from Exodus because if we are familiar with the exodus story from Egypt by Moses and the Israelites you’ll understand it is a little more descriptive of why God will fly us on the Wings of Eagles. I am not suggesting any of us will spend 40 years in a desert, but we will have “stuff” that we’ll not be able to endure or overcome it on our own.

I am sure at some point you’ve become familiar with the Poem “Footprints in the Sand” I am not going to quote the entire reading only the last verse because it too tells of us being carried yet it is also a promise. “He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

I want to make one last point in his book Daniel Bush, Undefended: Discovering God When Your Guard Is Down pages 13, 14 gives his own story of being carried. Where is the current of the Spirit running? To which point on the compass is the Spirit of Christ bidding you to come and know him this day? During the months before my move east to China, I clung to the promise the Lord had confirmed on that dark night—“I’ll not drop you.” At the end of myself and the start of his power, I awoke to his presence active in the recollection of and reliance upon his promise, which strengthened and empowered both my thoughts and actions.”

And remember what God did for Daniel Bush, Moses, and the Israelites He’ll do for you and I as well.

Happy Soaring!

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

Grace and PEACE,

Gary
